verizon wireless blocking 4chan

Somewhat old news by now, but Verizon Wireless is knowingly blocking access to all boards on 4chan.

This is an outrage, and if you have Verizon products I encourage you to throw them out the window.

4chan status page has the latest info.

weekend of wonder

I had a delighftul weekend. As such, you read the next few paragraphs at your own peril, since it's just me going on about how awesome my weekend was. In most (read: all) cases this is a pretty stupid excuse for a post. Whatever.

It started on Friday when I got to hang out with some good friends. We played SSBB, went to EB Games to purchase No More Heroes 2, and watched K beat Bayonetta. (As an aside, Bayonetta and NMH2 are absolutely ridiculous and over the top. Wickedly awesome, all the same.)

I bought Psychonauts from K.

Best thirty dollars spent in a long time.

Don't worry, he found it on eBay cheap and already has a copy of his own, so it's not like I ripped him off.

Then I ate Chinese food and had a deliciousness coma.

On Saturday I hung out with Zyx and deddly. I showed them Serial Experiments Lain, which I totally hope they enjoy as much as I do. Then we ate some Japanese food and I had another deliciousness coma.

After dinner we watched Invader Zim and two episodes of Starge Universe. I still dislike Colonel Young and Scott.

Then we played Psychonauts. Too much wonderment in such a short span of time.

Oh and deddly lent me the first paperback Transmetropolitan, which I have already finished.

Bloody amazing weekend.

sentimental drivel, or "why I <3 Hell"

I actually wrote this and posted this a few days ago on Hell. Just figured I would post it here too for posterity. Also, this might shine some light onto why I like Hell so much for those of you who think I'm crazy.

(if you don't want to read 593 words, there is a tl;dr version -- just keep scrolling)

In the February of 2005 I stumbled upon Oddwebsite due to the first Arfenhouse flash. At the time, the entire website's design was the DDW page with an unfortunately cluttered rant page tucked away. I loved the simple joy of Der Dragon Warrior and how the website was laid out. The flashing banner warning of the coming apocalypse that linked to Hell intrigued me, but I was young to the Internet and my eyes were unable to adjust to the bright flashing colours of the forums. I did lurk the forums occasionally, and remember reading about Red Slime, pookie and saw lots of the older posters. Among them were Xenon, Amon, AbyssalSquid, Pogo, mikachu, and plenty of others. It took me until the end of February before I finally registered an account and started posting a bit. I was fourteen at the time.

The revamped ranting design was filled with wonderment. Every day a new colour scheme and potentially an embed of something. I can't tell you how much I like the overall design of Oddwebsite and Hell, and I'm sure everyone here likes it just as much as I do since they keep coming back. Fixedsys will consistently be one of my favourite fonts, despite one of my artsy friend's cringing. It still makes me sad that I'm the only one of my IRL friends who grew up with Hell. Believe me, I've tried encouraging them to join the fray. It's not happening.

And while I did find this place fairly early on, I don't remember seeing the forum with this design.

Oddwebsite set the foundation for my Internet experiences. I had never heard of furries before I came across the site, and I'm certainly glad that I was introduced to them the way I was, instead of being taken in by their lies. It also helped me realize what I valued about the Internet and what made it awesome: anonymity, flashing colours, and Jpop. I still really hate the current trend of the Internet becoming "mainstream" and introducing fucking tools to it. Zanno's ranting during 2005 was really important to me not being another dumbfuck fourteen year-old (in retrospect, I still was, but maybe not to the same degree as others before and after me). I know this will probably sound like sentimental drivel (which it is) and that's okay since Oddwebsite has played a large part in my life. Despite there being a distinct lack of DDW during the latter part of 2005, I didn't really mind so much since Zanno was still consistently updating the website with whatever entered his head. I still miss the daily updates as it was something to look forward to and kept the hum drum of daily life at bay, even for a few minutes.

This website and forum rock, and I will always remember it with a smile on my face even now when I don't post quite as much as I used to. Hopefully when I'm old and senile and the Internet is a physical place people go to and hang out (accomplished using magnets I'm sure), I hope I'll still be able to remember the dancing anime girl and all the great posters who have posted on this forum and continue to post, or have faded away and are remembered for being awesome.

I just felt like sharing that with everyone. Hell really is a place for :efriends:.

I made up my mind

About what I was talking about a few days ago. Instead of signing up for a lame site like Twitter that all of the cool kids are using these days, I decided to find an alternative. I stumbled upon a crazy new social networking site called Bleeter. It looks really awesome. With its 30 character limit, I can post things that make little to no sense and have no thought put into them.

You guys should totally follow me on my Bleeter account and ignore the nerdlog from now on.

See you on the other side.

twenty ten

It's just another new year, but I'm excited that we get to say "twenty-x" as opposed to "two thousand-x". Zyx has claimed that he will continue saying two thousand just because. As a counter point, I asked him whether he said "nineteen hundred ninety-nine". I then wondered whether that really was a counter argument. Secretcow, a forum-goer of Hell, posted that he has frequently said "twenty ought x" for the years pre-dating this new decade. That is definitely a cooler way to express the year.

I will admit that this is pretty pointless to muse over how to refer to the new year. It sounds like a poor attempt to veil a lack of any actual material.

Hopefully StarCraft 2 will come out this year. It's only been about two years and six months since they officially anounced it. It's hard to look forward to something when you don't have a specific date to look forward to.

It looks like one thing won't change about the new decade: I still won't be able to keep my updates flowing with any kind of consistent thought.
